Animal Companions
If you’re after a furry companion to assist you in battle, you will want to choose Ranger as your class as this comes with a total of twelve different animals to choose from. Pets also level as you do, gaining unique abilities that deal damage, distract, heal and inflict enemies with status effects. You will have control over your animal friends, and they act just like the other characters in your party. Certain pets will be bound to specific race or an advanced class-specific.
Below you will find a list of Ranger Pets:
Dog – A furry friend with a distracting bark and sharp bite
Wolf – A cunning pack hunter with a self-healing attacks and an invigorating howl
Wild Boar – A tough ally with sharp tusks and a devastating charge
Deer – A swift fighter with sharp hooves and a hard skull
Rabbit – A lightning-quick companion with some unexpected tricks
Bear – A fearsome guardian with savage jaws
Raven – A dark omen on wings with a razor beak
Jay – A colorful bird with sharp talons and a swooping assault
Panther – A lithe predator that favors pouncing and biting
Spider – A patient, terrifying huntress with a prickly web
Dragon – A legendary beast with powerful wings and explosive breath
Drake – A scaly-skinned carnivore with a lethal charge and deadly breath
Magic Builds
Those who choose Magic as their inclination will also get pets that they can summon to their side called Invocations. A number of classes can summon spectral creatures who will assist you in battle for a short period of time, so unlike the Ranger Pets, their time is fleeting. Healers for example can summon the Wild, a spiritual guardian who can aid your party.
Also the goblin in The Waylanders called Trasté has its own special wisp who acts as a minion to aid in combat. They also have a special Friends! Ability that casts a Wisp near you every few seconds, which can be used as ammunition for specific abilities or can even set off an explosion.
The Waylanders is a party-based RPG, set to have deep tactical combat, with time travel between Celtic and Medieval times, as well as multiple endings. It’s inspired by titles such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Pillars of Eternity.
The Waylanders will be releasing on Steam Early Access this summer and its release date will be announced next week.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Skills
If you want games with a great story I recommand Planescape Torment, Disco Elysium ( true successor of PST, forget Numenera ) and MotB.
I also like KotoR2 a lot with one of the best characters in gaming history, but some star wars fans might hate it.
My main problem with non humanoid party members is that usually they have very limited options regarding their equipment and how to build them.
PST had very limited equipment options for every char, most items were for the main char only and since its best to be a mage all non daggers weapons were useless.
Okku could only equip rings and amulets and One of Many could not equip anything at all.
This is not a problem in a story focussed game and I really love those games, but players who love combat and optimizing their chars might not.
Well, those players will probably use a party of custum chars anyway.
