Office for Mac will no longer mail merge documents to email in HTML format. However Word successfully mail merges documents as text. Any time I try to use a different excel recipient list, I get the 'The converter necessary to open file. Jul 26, 2011 - Original Title: 'OSX Lion and Excel workbook text converter' I recently loaded Lion. Mail Merge through VBA in Microsoft Excel. Sub sendemail Dim ws As Worksheet Dim ws1 As Worksheet Dim Lr As Integer Dim bdate As Range Dim firstName As String Set ws = Sheets ('DataSheet') ' Your data sheet.
A reader asked how to convert an Excel workbook into a PowerPoint presentation where the first column was a title page and the next two columns were the subtitles.
This sounded to me like a Mail Merge problem, and indeed Word proved a bridge to getting this done. This is a circuitous solution but avoids using any VBA code.
The above video is a walk-through of the below steps.
Download the exercise file here.
- I would be glad to help. There area a number of tools that can convert just text or the file itself for any version of Microsoft Excel. Before I can provide the best tool though, I will need to get a better understanding of the file you are using, and how you are doing the mail merge.
- Select the cells you need to format as mac addresses. And then click Kutools Text Add Text. In the Add Text dialog box, please type a colon into the Text box, select the Specify option, and then enter the specified position numbers into the box. And finally click the OK button.
Select file to merge
In this lesson it will be the above exercise file.
Put a copy of this file on your Desktop or somewhere else accessible.
Then open a new Word document (no need to save this one) and set up a new Mail Merge by selecting Mailings from the home ribbon.

Under Select Recipients, there is an option to “Use an Existing List.” Select this option and navigate to your “exercise.xlsx” workbook. This workbook does contain headers, so you can leave that option checked on.
Insert fields to merge
This essentially loaded the workbook data into the Word doc. We will now tell Word where to insert these fields into our mail merge. We will do that by navigating to “Insert Merge Field,” also on the Mailings tab, and clicking on each of our three fields.
Apply Header styles to merge fields
For our finished product, we want the first field, Name, to be the header, and the other two fields to be sub-headings. So we will use Word’s Heading Styles menu to set this up:
Finally… we are ready to merge.
Mail Merge In Excel For Time
Head to “Check for Errors” on the Mailings tab and select the last option, “Complete the merge without pausing. Report errors in a new document.”
You will get a Word document with each page reporting each row of the Excel workbook.
Save the Word document.
Note – if you are having trouble with the next step, try saving the document as an RTF file and then loading to PowerPoint.
To PowerPoint!
Ok, now we will go to PowerPoint. Under “New Slide” on the Home tab, one of the very last options says “Slides from Outline.” Well, hey! We made an outline in Word! So go ahead and select that file, wherever you saved it. Make sure that file is closed, or PowerPoint will return an error.
BOOM! We’ve got a mail-merged PowerPoint slideshow, and we didn’t need any coding.
I hope this helped!
Hello Apple Community, 🙂
I am desperately trying to find an email solution to email my clients within OS X Yosemite. I have tried a few applications from the AppStore, but I find them mostly problematic and not a real solution.
Intention = Send several hundred emails to several hundred people, all individually addressed with 'Hello FIRSTNAME,' then bla, bla attached is (your monthly newsletter or whatever I want to attach) , with my email signature included.
Over a decade ago I could get this done in with Word and Outlook on Windows 7 and though I find OS X light years ahead on many levels, there is this one feature I find tremendously valuable is unfortunately missing and I have struggled with for years.
PLEASE HELP 🙂
Solutions tried so far:
1. First, I know how to create a mail merge document in Pages from Numbers with the Pages Data Merge app. As you can tell from what I wrote, this is not what I am trying to do.
2. Three AppStore apps, one would stop the entire process if there was a faulty email and I would have to start over, but I would not know at which point in the list to start from, another that would not support attachments and another that would not support text formatting, so my email signature looked like an old typewriter font.
There is one more solution I have not tried and that is MaxBulk Mailer SE. I just don't want to spend another $60 to be disappointed again. So if anyone has used this please let me know the pros and cons.
One last thought, I really think lacking this feature is a complete stupidity. So please, please, please, put this simple feature back, please.
